This is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE RELIGIOUS PENDANT that was made in the ART NOUVEAU style around c1910. It is handmade from 18K GOLD and it ORIGINATES from FRANCE. This pendant has old stamps on the bale and it is SIGNED - I can not make out the name, something that starts with an F (see lower right side). The pendant displays OUR LADY OF MT CARMEL - The BLESSED VIRGIN MARY as patroness of the Carmelite Order and the patron saint of Chile. The STELLA MARIS Monastery on Mount Carmel is considered the spiritual headquarters of the Carmelite Order and it is named after the traditional title of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The pendant is FINELY DETAILED with PLIQUE-A-JOUR TRANSLUCENT ENAMEL in ORANGE, GREEN, BLUE & PURPLE. Plique-à-jour (French for "letting in daylight") is a vitreous enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells and has no backing so light can shine through the translucent enamel. It is like a miniature version of stained glass that is very technically challenging and time consuming with a high failure rate. The pendant is set with one tiny rose cut diamond and it is framed with NATURAL PEARLS. This small round pendant measures 7/8” at the widest diameter and the total weight is 3.3 grams. The back looks as though a personal engraving has been polished away. ONE OF A KIND with the FINEST DETAIL!

*A NOTE ABOUT OUR PHOTOGRAPHY – Taking pictures of diamonds to be displayed on a computer screen can be difficult, often resulting in the diamonds looking dark (especially rose cut diamonds) when in reality they are not. If you are looking at any of our pictures and feel that the diamonds look dark, please refer to the description of the item that states the accurate color and clarity of the stones.
Also, jewelry and/or diamond grading is done under 10X magnification. When you super-size our photos you will see the item in 100X magnification. Please be aware that you may see things that cannot be seen with your eyes or a jeweler’s loupe. Sometimes these magnified images can make the item look distorted or appear to have problems when in reality it is fine. I list only high quality pieces and avoid those with problems or in need of repair unless it is described as such in the listing. If you are seeing something that you are not sure of, please inquire about it.
**Don’t hesitate to ask for comparison photos if can’t decide between 2 or more pieces.
